Producers Denise Robert and Daniel Louis and Director Luc Dionne re-examine one of the most distressing cases in Quebec history.

In the early 1900s in the village of Sainte-Philomène de Fortierville, Aurore (Marie-Anne Fortier) is born into the loving family of Marie-Anne Caron (Stéphanie Lapointe) and Télésphore Gagnon (Serge Postigo). But her mother dies of tuberculosis and her father decides to marry his seductive cousin, Marie- Anne Houde (Hélène Bourgeois Leclerc). Marie-Anne is not the devoted stepmother she seems to be. Aurore is subjected to horrific abuse at her hands. It is only at the corner's inquest into her death that the full terror of Aurore's life is revealed. The sensational trial which followed these revelations had a profound and lasting impact on Quebec society. Aurore depicts an almost-forgotten period and social milieu in Quebec's history, finally giving voice to those who knew what was going on at the time, but preferred to remain silent.

Despite the disturbing nature of the film, Aurore was a huge box-office success in Quebec.
