Jeanne Charmant-Killman, a trial judge, is investigating a case of embezzlement involving CEOs who are in bed with politicians.
The intoxicating power and the notoriety of her work erode her private life. Based on the Elf case, the film creates its own canvas and “retains its scathing political bite and grassroots stamp” (Chronic’art.com). Chabrol brilliantly directs such stunning actors as Isabelle Huppert as the “piranha judge” (Mathieu Catinaud), around whom orbit the giants of French cinema.
“Although it can’t restore justice’s sight, L’ivresse du pouvoir can at least poke a finger in her eye” (Paris Match).
