The characters include: Paul (Jonathan Zaccai), the summer lifeguard and winter grocery clerk; Paul’s mother Rose (Bulle Ogier), a retired factory worker who now plays the slots; his pretty girlfriend (Hélène Fillieres) who works at the mysterious factory sorting the smooth rocks pulled from the coastline and Pierre, the former resident, now a celebrated fashion photographer. This gentle portrait of a small town won the Caméra d’Or (Best First Feature) Cannes 2002.
