The film stars Roy Dupuis (Alexis), Karine Vanasse (Donalda) and Pierre Lébeau as Séraphin. Set in Sainte-Adèle, Quebec, 1889, the films follows the tragic love story of Alexis and Donalda who have secretly pledged to marry in the spring when he returns from a lumber camp. But, Donalda’s father is on the verge of bankruptcy. The brutal and miserly town mayor offers help – if Donalda will be his bride. Alexis returns to find his love trapped in misery. He is determined to free her.
