The masterful Claude Miller transposes Chekhov’s “The Seagull” to modern Brittany where a group of filmmakers pass a languid summer ripe with eternal conflicts between youth and maturity, idealism and cynicism. At her country home, actress Mado (Nicole Garcia) entertains her current lover, director Brice (Bernard Giraudeau) and her intense son Julien (Robinson Stevenin). An experimental filmmaker, Julien is involved with the ambitious Lili (Ludivine Sagnier). But she is fascinated by Brice and suggests they abandon their current partners and flee to Paris. Five years later, Julien is about to shoot a feature film about that summer. Lili is now a well-known actress and no longer with Brice. Will she get to play herself? Miller is generous to all his characters, reserving judgment as they attempt to define their relationships and responsibilities.
