Small-time crooks with big-time schemes hang out at Chez Roger, an unpretentious café in Montmartre. The line-up includes the middle-aged Jacques (Gérard Lanvin), recently released after five years for armed robbery; Francis (Jacques Gamblin) who’s embarrassed to tell his pals he’s taking drama classes and finds the stage more thrilling than a heist; Didier (Clovis Cornillac), a young hood with a gambling problem, and the big-talking Marcel (Étienne Chicot) who’s trying to lure Jacques back into crime. Written with ex-convict Désir Carré and shot in an intimate style, the film is a trenchant essay on a grim part of Paris society.
Nomination: César 2004, Best Supporting Actor - Clovis Cornillac
