Welcome To Cinéfranco 2008

Cinéfranco 2008 is a joyous opportunity to laugh together in a darkened theatre, a chance to weep together, to experience the camaraderie of exchanging glances after a film and spontaneously discussing an extraordinary shared experience. It is our invisible connection to viewers in Namur, Cannes, Montréal, Locarno, Paris and Berlin, because we have had the opportunity to see the same films they have seen.

Our joy is diminished by the sad departure of such towering legends as Ousmane Sembène, Jean-Claude Brialy, Jean-Pierre Cassel (J'aurais voulu être un danseur) and Michel Serrault.

Cinéfranco 08 Opening Reception on Friday March 28 in the lobby of Chin, with filmmaker François Delisle attending. Special guests: filmmakers Bruce MacDonald, Danny and Noemie Weiss.
Fascinating psychological, historical and current events topics come together with lighter, breezier fare. The programming reflects the richness and diversity representative of the burgeoning talent in francophone countries that are producing cinematic gems from Morocco, Chad, France, Switzerland, Belgium, Québec and other European countries such as Italy.

We would like to dedicate the Taviani brothers' superb film, "Le Mas des Alouettes", featuring Canada's pride, Arsinée Khanjian, to the generous hospitality of CHIN, Giovanna and the College Street Italian community.

Cinéfranco extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who, directly or indirectly, helped us overcome unimaginable obstacles!

Guided by the cinematic gods, our 11th annual Cinéfranco festival is sure to be film heaven, graced by such gifted actors as Anne-Marie Cadieux, Laurent Lucas, Cécile de France, Audrey Tautou, Guillaume Canet, Isabelle Blais, Julie Depardieu, Isabelle Carré and by thought-provoking directors.

Cinéfranco is a celebration of Francophone Cinema in all its splendour—come and make the most of it!
